Brackenfell Traffic Department
Brackenfell Traffic Department forms one of eighteen available testing centres across Cape Town, also available for various other traffic-related services. This driving licence testing centre has a team of well-trained staff able to assist you through the process of license renewal, test booking and more.
Applying for a learner’s licence
Individuals are first required to obtain a learner’s permit to apply for a driver’s licence. This qualifies you to operate a vehicle with a licensed driver, allowing you to practise safely.
To book an appointment at Brackenfell Traffic Department, bring your ID document, two identically sized ID photos, proof of address and the appropriate application fee. Once you have submitted all the relevant documentation and paid the application fee, you can select a date to write the test. This test can only be cancelled if you are sick and have been assigned a doctor’s medical certificate, are attending a funeral, or are writing an exam.
Under these circumstances, your testing date may be rescheduled. No refunds can be given for appointment cancellations. Individuals who are unable to read or write can apply to take an oral learner’s licence test.
On the day of the test, individuals are required to arrive on time for their appointment. Late comers will not be allowed to write. Once the test has been completed and passed, individuals must pay a fee for the learner’s licence.
Applying for a driver’s licence
Individuals who wish to apply for a diver’s license must have a valid learner permit applicable to the code they wish to apply for. In addition, access to a roadworthy vehicle for testing is necessary. Luckily, this can be arranged through various driving schools.
To book a driver’s test, individuals have to bring along a form of ID, a valid learner’s licence, two identical ID photos, proof of address and the relevant appointment fee. Once all of these documents have been processed and an eye test has been completed at the testing centre, individuals will be able to select a testing date from the available dates.
On the day of the test, learners are required to be on time and bring along their valid ID, appointment receipt and learner’s licence. A valid roadworthy vehicle must be used for the official test. This is not supplied by the testing centre.
